Lona Kozik

Lona Kozik (b. Tuscon, Arizona, USA) is a composer and pianist with a broad range of musical interests including classical, contemporary classical, rock and jazz. In America her musical education included West Chester University where she obtained a Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance, Piano Pedagogy and Music Theory, and the University of Pennsylvania where she obtain an MA and PhD in Music Composition. Her musical experience in the States included performing at various venues in and around Philadelphia, including the Arden Theatre, the Robert McFarland Opera Studio, the University of Pennsylvania, Kutztown University and West Chester University. She has also performed in and written for various contemporary classical ensembles, a rock band and solo piano recitals.

Following her move to England in 2003 she has played at the Landulph Festival (Cornwall), Salcombe Festival (Devon), and has given recitals of music by Satie and Philip Glass, as well as playing at Dartington College.

She has taught at Interlochen Arts Camp in Michigan, the University of Pennsylvania and at various studios in the United States. Her teaching commitments currently include lecturing in music composition and cultural theory at the University of Plymouth. She has guest lectured at Dartington College, the University of York and Truro College. In addition she continues to teach piano, composition and music theory privately. She is a member of the Totnes Jazz Collective Committee, and has contributed jazz compositions to their gigs. She has also participated in the avant garde/experimental events in Totnes,"Strange Noise".

Lona's compositions are championed by the American pianist Danny Holt whose performances of her etudes "Fast Jump" have been acclaimed in many venues in America and Britain. Mr. Holt is currently recording these pieces for issue on CD.

She has a strong commitment to music education and now lives in Totnes, Devon.
