Tirke Linnemann

TirkeAfter studying the cello and piano at the Royal Academy of Music and Royal College of Music my career began in the Halle Orchestra in Manchester. After four years, latterly as sub-principal, I freelanced in Manchester before bringing up three children. Here in Devon I trained as a Primary teacher and then as a Reading Recovery teacher. Both being a mother and my years of class teaching ( KS1 and KS2) have given me invaluable experience and I now love working alongside class teachers to try and make music an important, if not central part of children’s education. Having been involved with the pilot schemes for Wider Opportunities, which gives a whole class the opportunity to learn an instrument, I am currently teaching this method in two local schools. As well as the cello I teach piano and guitar, the latter being an excellent way into many different styles of music. I still play professionally in string quartets and orchestras and encourage children to play in ensembles whenever possible. I teach beginners right through Grades 1 to 8 and am particularly happy to take on adult beginners of any age. My motto would be:

“Keep music in your life at all times!”
